Tenerife...

Sorry I've been so quiet all day, but I've been searching for a digital copy of the temporary new London Underground Map.
My favourite webcam in Tenerife, which was in a banana plantation, looking at Teide went out of service on the 10th of Feburary after a hotel, which was slowly being built in from of it finally blocked enough of the view to make the webcam useless. Here is the last picture (10:12:01):

This number is actually the temperature in degrees celcius.————————┐
Pico del Teide
As you can see, it was a cold, cloudy winter's morning in Tenerife on the 10th of Feburary 2005.

However, today I have found a satisfactory replacement webcam (there were a lot for me to evaluate), which is on Playa de Fañabé, which I have been to almost every year of my life many times. In the distance you can see Puerto Colon, which has a harbour and lots of restaurants in a large shopping complex. To the left of Puerto Colon you can see some shops and hotels, and to the right there are large stone wavebreakers. For those of you who are wondering, that is the official lifeguard's flag in the foreground, and behind it and to the left is a place where you can hire out all of the traditional stuff to drive in the sea. The only bad thing about this webcam is, if you have been here before it makes you wish it was a 360 degrees panoramic webcam, because behind it is the 'blow hole' (a hole in a lava flow that links to a sea cave below, and emits large amounts of sea water in a similar style to a geyser. Also, to the left of this webcam is Pico del Teide, the Fañabé shopping areas, the Guayarmina Princess, the Bahia Princess, Los Olivos III, and many other hotels. On the right of this webcam you can see the island of La Gomera in the distance on most days. Here is the latest picture (I'm not sure how often this updates. The one above used to update every 5 minutes, so this one should be roughly the same, although I do know a webcam in Tenerife run by the same company as the one below that updates as a picture is requested):

Date and time...

Current date and time in the British Isles:

You better like it - It took me ages sifting through HTML Code to fix the way it kept on shifting this whole message about 10cm right (so it was mostly invisible) when it was published, and fix the rest of the blog, which it kept on removing the backgrounds from. It also sent the text below up above the message - Even before the message title.

Automatically updating images of the Sun

Below are the latest pictures of the Sun, provided by ESA (European Space Agency). To go to ESA click here.

Different colours represent diffferent ultraviolet wavelengths, each radiating from gas at a particular temperature - orange, 80 000 degrees, blue 1 000 000 degrees, green 1 500 000 degrees and yellow 2 500 000 degrees:

Gases at 80,000 degrees

Gases at 1,000,000 degrees

Gases at 1,500,000 degrees

Gases at 2,500,000

The Sun's visible surface today:
Here is the sun's visible surface. You may see some sunspots on this image. They generally come in small groups and can also be seen on the Ultra Violet images as regions of intense activity. Each sunspot gradually moves across the visible surface as the Sun rotates. To go from one side of the sun to the other, generally takes about two weeks.

Visible light coming from the sun. WARNING: NEVER LOOK AT THE SUN DIRECTLY THROUGH ANY MAGNIFYING DEVICE! You can look at this picture, though...

The space around the Sun today:
This red image shows the space quite close to the Sun, whilst the blue image gives a much wider view. In each case a round mask cuts out direct sunlight, and the white ring denotes the Sun's true size.

CCD BAKEOUT PROBLEM:
Sometimes the first four images display the message 'CCD BAKEOUT'. For an explanation of why this is, click here.
